As part of an ongoing effort to maintain the sanitary sewer service, Tri-Star Pipe Inspection, working in conjunction with [Utility] will be conducting smoke testing on the sanitary sewer lines to locate sources of rainwater inflow to the sewer. Notices will be hung on your door approximately 48 hours prior to actual testing. The work is anticipated to begin [Date] Work crews will be in your area for
approximately 3-4 weeks.
A SMOKE TEST survey will assist our inspection crews in locating breaks and defects in our sewer system. The smoke you see coming from the vent stacks on houses or holes in the ground is NON TOXIC, NOT-STAINING, IS ALMOST ODORLESS, WHITE TO GRAY IN COLOR AND CREATES NO FIRE HAZARD.
The smoke should not enter your home unless you have defective plumbing or dried up drain traps in seldom-used sinks or drain.
IMPORTANT:
****When you get notification that we will be doing your area we are asking you
to run water in all of your sinks/tubs and flush your commodes.****
Recommendation is to run all water lines in your home for 30 seconds to 1 min and
flush commodes the morning of testing being done. Lines that are dry may allow
smoke to enter your home.

No, this smoke is nontoxic, non-staining and almost odorless.
How long will the process take?
The entire process will take about 4 weeks to complete. Your specific home however will have the smoke test completed in approximately 3-4 hours on 1 day.
What do I do if smoke enters my house?
If you notice smoke in your house we recommend that you contact Tom Lewis, Tri-Star Pipe at 817-319-7793 and open your windows to allow it to escape. If you were not home and smoke entered your house and has not dissipated call Tom Lewis, TriStar Pipe at 817-319-7793.
Will the smoke trigger my smoke alarms?
This has not happened in the past; however, we will be notifying the Lucas Fire Department about the testing that is being conducted and the daily street locations.
What if I notice smoke and it is not my day for having the test done?
Call 911 for the Fire Department.
